Top Ten Tuesday: My picks for 'Books On My Autumn TBR List'.

Ahhh, Autumn. The time of year for delicious warm beverages, cosy jumpers and blankets, and crunching leaves underfoot. Apart from the chilly weather I'm a huge fan of this time of year, and become really interested in reading spooky, mystery, fantastical and literary fiction. I've picked ten books I'd love to get through over the coming months!

1) 'His Last Bow' by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The penultimate volume in the 'Sherlock Holmes' series and the perfect little mystery to read during the Autumn time. I'm a huge fan of the 'Sherlock Holmes' novels as a whole, and I want to keep enjoying them!

2) 'A Dance With Dragons: Dreams & Dust' by George R. R. Martin.

I've watched the entirety of Game Of Thrones and it's beginning to hit me that there won't be any more of it! So now I'm looking to go back to the books and I'm interested to see how different they are!

3) 'The Phantom Of The Opera' by Gaston Leroux.

This is another story that has always captivated my heart (I'm a huge fan of the musical and 2004 film) but that I've never read. It seems like a good autumnal read too - murder, mystery and gothic romance.

4) 'Wakenhyrst' by Michelle Paver.

I'm fond of a good ghost story, and 'Thin Air' by Michelle Paver really captured my attention when I read it. This is another that is set in an old house, and it is giving me real 'The Woman In Black' vibes which I love.

5) 'The Deathless Girls' by Kiran Millwood Hargrave.

This book is an LGBTQ+ retelling of Dracula from the perspective of his brides. Do I really need to say more than that? I need to read it ASAP!

6) 'A Skinful Of Shadows' by Frances Hardinge.

Frances Hardinge entered my radar a while back, but I loved reading 'The Lie Tree' and many people on the blogosphere have recommended this book on the back of that. I can't wait to get into it!

7) 'The Alchemist' by Paulo Coelho.

So many people have recommended this book to me, and I think it actually looks really cool! I like the fairytale format, and I'm interested to see what all the hype is about with this one.

8) 'Tiger Lily' by Jodi Lynn Anderson.

I read one of Jodi Lynn Anderson's books a while back and found it okay, but this one has really stuck on my radar because it's a reimagining of 'Peter Pan' but from Tiger Lily's POV. I'm definitely intrigued!

9) 'Retribution Rails' by Erin Bowman.

I've raved about 'Vengeance Road' enough to know I'm going to enjoy this YA Wild West adventure. I just have to actually read it now, and I'm frustrated that I haven't already.

10) 'Pet Sematary' by Stephen King.

I've always been in love with the idea of King's books as I think he is an excellent writer with a vast imagination. But I really want to totally fall in love with and be terrified by one. I'm hoping that 'Pet Semetary' will be that one.

Top Ten Tuesday: My picks for 'Books On My Autumn TBR List'.

Yay, my favourite type of topic! I love planning ahead (even if I do rarely follow my plans) as it gets me excited about certain books I'd love to read! Now for Autumn, I like mysteries, horror, a bit of fantasy of historical fiction and deeply coloured book covers!

1) 'Solitaire' by Alice Oseman.

I previously read 'Radio Silence' by Oseman, and I loved it a lot. Being set in Kent it was so relatable and I loved the characters and diversity in the book. Now that I'm into webcomics, I've noticed that she's written one called 'Heartstopper' and I really want to read it. I believe the characters are from 'Solitaire' and so I would like to read that first. Also, this was Alice's debut and every time I read the synopsis, I get really excited by it!

2) 'Retribution Rails' by Erin Bowman.

*Plays The Good, The Bad & The Ugly theme* Cowboys! Or should I say, cowgirls! I'm a big fan of the Wild West as a setting, thanks to watching them a lot with my Dad. I really loved 'Vengeance Road' which was Bowman's first book from this series.I don't know why it's taken me so long to get round to 'Retribution Rails', but I'm determined to read it this Autumn!

3) 'The Corset' by Laura Purcell.

The first of a few scary picks, this is definitely a book I'm excited about. I received it from NetGalley fairly recently and was so excited because I've heard so many great things about Purcell's other work, 'The Silent Companions'. This one looks equal parts creepy and original. I'm certain I've never read anything like it! I can't wait!

4) 'A Study In Charlotte' by Brittany Cavallaro.

I'm a big fan of Conan Doyle's 'Sherlock Holmes' series, so it makes sense that I want to be reading this YA retelling by Brittany Cavallaro. I've heard some really impressive things about it, and its been on my TBR for a while! Also, Autumn is definitely the right time of year for mysteries!

5) 'The Night Circus' by Erin Morgenstern.

I have been waiting to read this book for some time, and hopefully I'll get to it within the next few months. It's a little longer than some of my usual reads but does come highly recommended and I kind of want to read it just for that! Alongside great reviews, this book contains a lot of my favourite tropes.

6) 'The Twisted Tree' by Rachel Burge.

Of course I'm going to read a horror in October, it's halloween month! I'm so excited! Honestly guys, this book went straight on the TBR as soon as I read that it was perfect for fans of Neil Gaiman's 'Coraline', and as well as that, I love that it's classified as a Nordic thriller too.

7) 'That Inevitable Victorian Thing' by E.K. Johnston.

'That Inevitable Victorian Thing' is written by E.K. Johnston, an author whose previous work I've adored, but I look forward to her bizarre twist on history and how victorian society remained 'the norm' as years went by. I'm getting real Bioshock vibes from this one!

8) 'Nevernight' by Jay Kristoff.

Ooh, a story about assassins? Yes please! The covers for this series are gorgeous and I love them a lot! I can't wait to get stuck into these books, especially as they've received such great reviews!

9) 'The Sisters Of The Winter Wood' by Rena Rossner.

This book has a beautiful cover, and that is mostly what I've been drawn to when it comes to my desire to read it. But upon inspecting the synopsis, I want to even more! It's filled with enchantment, fairy tales, folklore and a dash of magical realism. I'm expecting big things from this one.

10) 'The Long Way To A Small, Angry Planet' by Becky Chambers.

The colder months always feel like the perfect time to read sci-fi to me for some reason. I'm not sure why. I'm especially excited about this one because it's been hailed as a great read for fans of Mass Effect, one of my favourite space-set open world video games, so I definitely think it will be up my alley.

Top Ten Tuesday: My picks for 'Books On My Autumn TBR List'.

Yay, picking books for my upcoming TBR is my favourite thing to do! Autumn is a great month for reading, it makes me thing of 'back to school', classics, orange book covers and of course Halloween! It's the perfect time for ghost stories!

1) 'The Return Of Sherlock Holmes' by Arthur Conan Doyle.

So I'm kind of in the process of reading these short stories now, and I'm thoroughly enjoying them so far! The cover of this collection is very autumnal and there's something about cosying up in a blanket while reading a good mystery that is very appealing at this time of year!

2) 'Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki & His Years Of Pilgrimage by Haruki Murakami.

I have never read a book by Murakami and I wanted to read something a little more 'intelligent'. His work has been recommended to me by a lot of people so it's exciting to be able to try it out, and also this is one of his shorter works so a good place to start.

3) 'The Goblins Of Bellwater' by Molly Ringle.

When I red it at school, I liked Christina Rossetti's poem 'Goblin Market' a lot. This is a retelling of that poem and while Fantasy is normally very 'Spring' for me, this feels a little different. I'm expecting it to be a bit eerie which is the best kind of book for this time of year.

4) 'The Elite' by Kiera Cass.

Just look at that bright orange/red cover! What other month could I possibly read this? I'm behind the world in this series because pretty much everyone else has finished it, but while I had some problems with book one, I liked the competition concept and am determined to find out what happens!

5) 'Lies We Tell Ourselves' by Robin Talley.

The last book I read by Robin Talley was a retelling of Macbeth and I loved it. It was a great read for Autumn! The cover for this also kind of gives me those vibes - lots of yellow, orange and black. While I expect it to not be quite so paranormal, I am interested in the intersectionality of this book and the topics it covers.

6) 'The Woman In Black & Other Ghost Stories' by Susan Hill.

Like I said, Autumn is perfect for ghost stories! While I've already read 'The Woman In Black', I know that Susan Hill has written a ton of classic, spooky tales and I have been dying to get into them for a long time! Having this book could not be more exciting for me!

7) 'The Hawley Book Of The Dead' by Chrysler Szarlan.

Another book on the paranormal, but this time with the focus firmly on witches, a subject that has always fascinated me. I've had this on the Netgalley approval list for a long time and actually consider it a little shameful how long it has taken me to read it.

8) 'Six Of Crows' by Leigh Bardugo.

Oh boy! This book! I'm so excited just thinking about it, and I think that now I've read the entire 'Shadow & Bone' series, I'll appreciate it even more. Having loved a certain roguish prince/pirate in that series, I think the gang is really going to appeal to me!

9) 'The Wrath & The Dawn' by RenĂ©e Ahdieh.

Now a desert set fairy tale might not seem the most Autumnal thing ever, but I'm so excited about this book and I liked Ahdieh's writing in 'Flame In The Mist' a lot so I think I'll enjoy this. People have compared it (with mixed reactions) to 'A Thousand Nights' by E.K. Johnston which I loved, so fingers crossed!

10) 'Glimpse' by Kendra Leighton.

Another poem based book, this is a re-imagining of Alfred Noyes' 'The Highwayman' which I also studied and loved at school! It's also another book that has been on the Netgalley list for far too long and really needs to come off. Exciting!

Top Ten Tuesday: My picks for 'Books On My Autumn TBR'.

Without a shadow of a doubt, these are my favourite TTT lists. I love planning ahead, and looking at all the fabulous books I could read fills me with a huge sense of happiness.  In other words, I can't wait to make this list!

1) 'Memories Of Ash' by Intisar Khanani.

Since pre-ordering and receiving this book in May, I've been looking for the perfect opportunity to read it. I was hoping that this would be the month to do so but sadly, I haven't managed all of my reads and this happened to fall in last place. I'm reserving October for my scarier reads so it will probably have to wait until November now, but that's okay! I will get round to it.

2) 'Rebel Of The Sands' by Alwyn Hamilton.

Another book that escaped me on a monthly TBR and I haven't fond time to get back to, but once again I'm hoping that November will prove to be the perfect month to read this book! I'm extremely excited about it too, as I have been ever since I bought it. Such a gorgeous cover and intriguing synopsis must be filled with awesomeness!

3) 'Ash' by Malinda Lo.

Okay, this is the last 'catch-up' read I'll talk about but I'm so disappointed in myself for not getting to this book yet that I had to include it! A f/f relationship in a retelling of Cinderella sounds absolutely perfect to me, so I'm dying to read it and find out if it lives up to my high expectations!

4) 'The Lie Tree' by Frances Hardinge.

This book just looks so creepy, and that will be absolutely perfect for a Halloween read! I love scary books so much, and I've read Hardinge's work before so know that she's a phenomenal writer who really knows how to create a spooky atmosphere!

5) 'If I Fall, If I Die' by Michael Christie.

This is an old but not forgotten Netgalley request of mine that I've decided to try and read ASAP because I was so intrigued by the cover and synopsis! Not only that, but it would be a great to have a book in reserve to break up all the scariness!

6) 'The Bazaar Of Bad Dreams' by Stephen King.

I want to read this collection of short stories so badly, and October is absolutely the perfect month to do this! I haven't read Stephen King in such a long time and I only found 'It' average in terms of the scares, mostly because it was so long-winded. I'm hoping short stories will be the perfect solution!

7) 'The Graces' by Laure Eve.

A book about Witches? Yes! It's a must for Halloween! I actually received this book as an ARC from my Illumicrate subscription but sadly didn't get to read it until now. Still, that's okay because October will be a great month for starting this gorgeous book!

8) 'The Dead House' by Dawn Kurtagich.

I received this book quite a while back, but that's okay because once again, Halloween is here to save me! I've heard great reviews for this horrifying psychological thriller and I'm looking forward to sampling some of Kurtagich's work at last!

9) 'A Monster Calls' by Patrick Ness.

Finally! I'm going to read another book by Patrick Ness! Whatsmore, it's going to be a good one I can just tell! From what little I've seen about the book, not to mention what I've gleaned from the movie trailer, I'm so excited!!! I hope I really do enjoy it as much as I think I will!

10) 'Illuminae' by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff.

Like 'A Monster Calls', I bought this book a YALC (so pretty) and knew I'd have to read it ASAP because it's been on my list for so long! It has such an interesting premise too, and I read about it absolutely everywhere, so I can only imagine that I'm really going to enjoy it.

Top Ten Tuesday: My picks for 'Books On My Autumn TBR List'.

These are seriously my favourite TBR lists to make because I love looking ahead at all the books I want to read over the next few months. Hopefully I'll get round to them all!

1) 'More Than This'; Patrick Ness.

My great hope is to get round to this book at some point this month because I have been wanting to read something by Patrick Ness for a long time! I actually had this book on my Summer TBR list after getting it for my birthday but haven't got round to it until now. I'm so excited for this one though guys, I just hope it's as good as I'm counting on it being!

2) 'A Feast For Crows'; George R.R. Martin.

Yet another book on this month's TBR that I'm ridiculously excited about. I love this series! I've heard some slightly worrying reviews for this particular instalment in the series but then on the other side of the coin, I am eager to keep getting through this series because I'm having withdrawal symptoms from the books and the TV series. I probably won't get much further than this one for fear of spoilers though!

3) 'Horns'; Joe Hill.

Autumn? Does that mean...Halloween? Of course it does! I actually bought this book such a long time ago and wanted to read it as soon as possible. In fact, I did start it, but for some reason never got round to finishing the whole thing (I didn't really get beyond the first chapter). The reason for that is not because I was not enjoying it, more that I didn't have time to commit to it. It's time to get back to a book that I put on hold for a long time.

4) 'Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children'; Ransom Riggs.

I want to read this book so bad! It's looking like Autumn is going to be a month for books that have been on the shelf for a flipping long time! I heard about this book when I first started blogging and thought it looked both creepy and intriguing. Autumn is the perfect time for those kinds of books! Especially as the second instalment is out already and the third well on it's way!

5) 'High Rise'; J.G. Ballard.

This is another book that was on my Summer TBR that I never read. A film was being made of this book (with Tom Hiddleston in it) that drew my attention and made me really want to read the book. I didn't get round to it in the last three months but I'm determined to before Winter, particularly as Ballard's books are renowned for being such great reads!

6) 'Magic Study; Maria V. Snyder.

So let's get into a couple of series that I need to read the next books of. I'm trying really hard this year to get further into some series that I've not progressed with very well. I adored the first book in this series, 'Poison Study', and it's shocking to me that I haven't got further. I simply need  to know what's happening with Yelena and all the other wonderful characters I met in the first book!

7) 'World After'; Susan Ee.

I read 'Angelfall' pretty recently actually, and really enjoyed it! It's been a while since I've read a decent series with Angels in it and I would love to finish this one because it has been great reading so far. A friend of mine at work read the first book on my recommendation, then raced through the rest of the series and loved it! It has made me feel a little behind and given me the urge to make more progress!

8) 'Mary Hades'; Sarah Dalton.

Time to throw another spooky read into the mix! I actually won this book in a Giveaway and I wanted to read something by Sarah Dalton because her books look so good! Again, it's been a while since I have read a Ghost Story! That's a shame too because I've actually missed Horror as a genre, and I really do think this is going to be a good one!

9) 'Lumière'; Jacqueline Garlick.

Do you know what other genre feels like an Autumn genre? Steampunk! I've no idea why that's true (certainly in my case) but I really want to read some and this is the perfect pick. I've recently posted a Book Blitz on it, and then managed to acquire a copy from Netgalley. The excerpts sounded great so I'm quite excited about it!

10) 'The Historian'; Elizabeth Kostova.

Like 'Horns', I started this book a long time ago when I was very young. I hadn't read 'Dracula' then and didn't really understand what was going on. Coming back to it many years later seems like a great idea now, I think I'll be a lot more appreciative of what I'm reading. I've read great things about Kostova's writing so I'm very excited! I own her other book 'The Swan Thieves' too so I'm hoping I get into her writing as much as I think I will!
