Daily Shenanigans, 11/05/2014: Shopping!

Day two of my four day trip in London and I am having a really nice time! We had a lovely lay-in this morning which made me particularly happy after the week I've had. Then this afternoon, after lunch, we made our way to Stratford Shopping Centre and spent the afternoon there! I did actually buy myself a few bits and bobs. Sadly, no books as I'm still on a book buying ban. But I did get myself a cute overnight bag with foxes on it (my old one is dying a terrible death) and quite a few things in Boots! Namely skincare and make-up, as I needed to re-stock on a few things! It was a really nice afternoon, and when we got back, Mat cooked us a Roast which is one of my favourite dinners! Don't worry guys, I haven't forgotten my promise! I've read a lot of 'Cuckoo Song' and am really enjoying it. I can't wait to finish it and let you know my thoughts on it.

Tomorrow I'm off to the X-Men Premiere which I am so excited about! It's unclear who will be there but I have seen various internet sources confirming Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy!I can't wait to tell you all about it!

Weekly Wishlist #8

Wow have I really been doing these for two months already? Time really does fly with this Blog, I can't believe I'm in April!

1) The 'Tortall Companion Guide'; Tamora Pierce & co. Okay so this one is not out for a very long time. I read different things from different sources. Some say the end of this year, some say definitely next year, I've even seen 2016 written somewhere! Nevertheless, it's coming at some point. And I need it. Anyone who reads my blog will know that Tamora Pierce is my favourite author and I've basically read all of her books. Of course I'm going to want the Companion Guide too, no matter how long I have to wait! They can't keep it from me forever...

2) 'The Madman's Daughter'; Megan Shepherd. This book has been on my TBR list for quite a while. I love the cover, and I have heard an abundance of good things about this one. After looking into the book, it looks like such a unique and interesting read! I hope I can get my hands on it soon! It also has a sequel, 'Her Dark Curiosity' which looks equally as interesting and I would really love to get into this series, the sooner, the better.

3) 'If You Find Me'; Emily Murdoch. I first caught sight of this book while browsing through the Goodreads Giveaways. It immediately caught my eye as a book that might be quite interesting, and as I looked into it, I found myself wanting to read it more and more. I haven't really seen it around the blogosphere, but I've seen it in so many other places, and Amazon keeps trying to sell it to me, so that must mean I've looked at it enough times that every cookie on the internet has picked up on it!

4) Revlon's 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Collection. Now I've always thought Nail Varnishes are pretty, though I rarely have time to put them on myself. But I would make time for this collection! It popped up on my news feed one morning this week and I thought 'My goodness, Marvel nail varnishes?!'. Yes I know there is not really anything that separates them from normal nail varnishes, but the colours are pretty, no? They have Lip Glosses too if that appeals to anyone more!

5) Cheshire Cat Pendant. I love Alice In Wonderland! I wish I had a copy of the book with original illustrations such as this one. But I think that this pendant is gorgeous! The Cheshire Cat is one of my favourite characters too, so that's a bonus! It's quite a hefty price for a pendant, at £40, but I really think it's very pretty. I love the text in the background too!




Another week over! I'm still so shocked that I've done so many of these! The good news is, people around me have now told me they know what to get me for my Birthday, so I'm very excited! Normally I'm a bit rubbish at thinking of things that I want!

Weekly Wishlist #2

Here it is, my second weekly wishlist! I must say, there's been a few things I've seen this week, more in the film than anything else. My original plan was to set myself a number of things to include each week, but I think forcing myself to find a certain quota of items each week would entirely defeat the point of it being a wishlist. Therefore I shall have no max amount of items, I'll aim for above three each week but if I really can't find that many then I won't lose sleep over it. For the same reason, I'm not going to attempt doing a 'one from each category' thing either. One week you might get three films; the next, four books and a stuffed toy. Let's just see how we get on. 1) 'My Neighbour Totoro' Studio Ghibli Miniature Figurines. Now I know I jumped on the Studio Ghibli bandwagon last week, but I found these a while back and really wanted them. How cute are they? I'd love to, when I have a house, find places to put each one. I found these gorgeous little ornaments on Amazon, sold by LOTR for a reasonable £16.99. Check them out if you like these films!



2) 'Only Lovers Left Alive' DVD. Yes, I know that last week's wishlist included a movie starring Tom Hiddleston. But the reason this one gets on here is because I was going to see this film at the cinema with a friend this week. I didn't end up doing so, and now my local Cinema have stopped showing it. So the DVD is my only chance to get hold of this film and watch my favourite actor at work again. It's available for Pre-Order, but no release date yet. I don't care. I want it.



3) 'Super Effective Collection' from Shiro Cosmetics. This site is just fantastic. It combines two of my favourite things, geekery and pretty eye shadows (I'm a sucker for them). The Super Effective Collection instantly brings to mind the Pokemon world, and with individual names such as 'Vine Whip', 'Legendary' and 'Smell Ya Later' you instantly know what the collection is about if you're a fan. I've ordered from this store before and the colours are pigmented well, safe and the service is great! They have all sorts of collections, based on 'The Hobbit', 'Minecraft', 'The Hunger Games' Collection (another great one which I ordered some time ago), and their latest is based on George R.R Martin's 'A Song Of Ice And Fire' series. Well worth a look!

4) 'Cinder', 'Scarlet' and 'Cress'; Marissa Meyer. I simply had to include these books. They've been haunting my Bloglovin' feed for some time now and I have really become addicted to the idea of Fairy Tale Re-Tellings as a genre recently. Cinderella, Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel mixed with spaceships and cyborgs? I'm intrigued and want them.The picture links to 'Cinder', the first book of the three.

5) 'Sherlock' Series 3. I love this TV series. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have just brilliantly re-invented the famous duo, Sherlock and Dr Watson. Also, I adore Louise Brealey's character, Molly. Series 3 did not disappoint me in any way, I loved it! I have Series 1 & 2, now I want the 3rd to re-complete my collection. If you haven't already watched this series, then I thoroughly recommend it, they've done a great job of taking a classic and giving it a humorous, modern twist.

Made Up about Make-Up

Readers I can only apologise for the severe lack of blogging. It is inexcusable I know, and now I've broken up for Easter I'm going to attempt to catch up on the last month or so. The sun has finally come out and I feel really happy!


Firstly, I've really been getting into the whole Makeup thing recently. I've entered a couple of contests on Facebook and have gone a bit crazy and brought a ton of eyeshadows from indie companies in America. My orders from Shiro Cosmetics and Fyrinnae arrived a while back and have worked wonders, so I have ordered from them again. Meanwhile I've also ordered and received a huge order from Darling Girl Cosmetics and a sample pack of colours inspired by Wonderland from Aromaleigh which are all very beautiful. I'm seriously thinking of starting up this Beauty Blog as I'm really getting into the whole Makeup thing. More samples on the way for me to try out too!


Second thing, films a plenty! I've been to see many at the Cinema which I will briefly describe and review. Firstly, 'This Means War'. This film was very funny, as was it's purpose. A tad predictable as you had the entire plot pretty much sussed before the opening credits had finished. However I did really enjoy it and they did keep you guessing a bit with which man she would choose in the end. Still, a good film and one to watch on a rainy day. Next, I went to watch 'The Raven', based on the later part of Edgar Allen Poe's life (who is an amazing poet). The film itself was very very good, you constantly weren't sure who the killer was as there were many suspects. One thing I DIDN'T enjoy was the sheer amount of gore. Readers, I'm not just talking about the odd blood squirt, I am talking man getting his stomach cut open RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR VERY EYES. There was an awful lot of it as well! Still that might just be me as I can be very squeamish about things like that. The final film that I watched last week was...*drum roll*...'John Carter'! Now many of you may have heard that it has been a total flop! When we went to watch the 3D showing, there was quite literally 8 of us in the Cinema. After watching the movie I find this appalling! It's a fantastic film and I would happily go and watch it again and again! If you haven't watched it, I am begging you to support the hard work that has been put into it and go and watch it! I can guarantee you will not only enjoy it, but absolutely fall in love with what can only be described as the Alien Dog, Woola (Google him)!


As well as buying tons of Makeup, I've been watching a lot of dance! I've bought on DVD a dance tribute to Pina Bausch, 'Pina',  and I'm impressed with what I've seen so far. The DVD I'm waiting for to arrive (and so hyped about) an Alice in Wonderland ballet. Readers, just watching the TRAILER has given me shivers. I can't wait!Also, since I've broken up from Uni I've been forced to tidy the bomb site that is my room (good progress so far) and give it a spring clean. While doing this I've taken the opportunity to rewatch a couple of my favourite films, 'Matilda' and 'Spirited Away'. These are just the cutest, best films and I absolutely love them! The soundtracks are just wonderful too.


Well readers I'd hoped to include a few pictures with this blog but for some reason I can't, I'll get it checked out. In the mean time, a Cirque Du Soleil DVD for their show 'Dralion' has just arrived for me so I'm going to pop that into my DVD player and do a bit more tidying. I hope you can forgive me for the lack of blogging.

"If She Dies, She Dies!"

Okay guys, I've just been to see 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' and it was amazing! The basic plot involved a group of pensioners (for various reasons of their own) travelling to India to stay at what is described to be a dream Hotel in the heart of India, only to find it is falling apart and owned by an eccentric manager (Dev Patel) whose passion for the business makes him blind to the situation around him. First of all, it, in my opinions, has a cast to die for! For those who don't know, these include Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Celia Imrie and many more! The entire cast were fantastic, and even Karen from 'Outnumbered' made a minor appearance, which was a nice surprise. The film was full of humour, poking fun at a number of topics which had the entire Cinema laughing their heads off. The storyline was, in some ways, predictable but there were a couple of surprises and I for one like a certain amount of predictability so that the plot does not become confusing. The characters were developed nicely and the shots of India and soundtrack were a beautiful glimpse into a very different culture. Overall, I don't just recommend this, I am saying to you all it is a necessity that you go and see it!

In other news, I'm thinking of setting up a Make-Up blog because I'm really getting into it! Ordered a few eyeshadows from Shiro Cosmetics (a fabulous indie brand that I am eager to try) and some Pixie Epoxy from Fyrinnae (yet another greatly reviewed indie brand, their eyeshadows look beautiful).
