Last Week's Shenanigans: Moving To London!

So this week has been majorly busy for me and I have spent most of it thinking about or being in London! I am still settling in right now so here is a breakdown of what I have done.

Monday 1st: As peak week hadn't quite finished I ended up working today. The shift didn't go too badly and to be honest, it took up most of my day. I was given a lift by my lovely friend Fliss again which made me smile. I made a bit of a start on 'Coraline' and it was nice to instantly recognise parts of the film.

Tuesday 2nd: So this marked my first day off in ages, except I still ended up being exceptionally busy with packing. My lovely sister gave me a hand and I'm glad she did! I managed to sort all of my books and DVDs with her help! After doing some packing, I filmed a video with my sister and I loved doing it! Bev suggested I start my own YouTube channel, but I think I should settle into London first!

Wednesday 3rd: So today marked my last day working at Canterbury Clarks and it turned out to be pretty emotional. The shift itself went so quickly and we decided to go out for drinks and a meal after closing time. As my shift ended early, I went out for a Frappe and a slice of cake with a couple of my work friends, then we returned to Clarks to pick the rest of them up. At my leaving meal, they gave me a card and some presents and after Fliss dropped me home, I had a bit of a cry.

Thursday 4th: More packing today, and I focused on clothes this time. It was a little bit sad to watch my room get barer as the day went on. My sister came home around lunch time and she brought her friend Sam with her, so I got a little distracted by their conversation. We had curry for dinner as it was my last night at home.  Overall, a good and productive day.

Friday 5th: Well today was my last day at home, and I still had more packing to do. It mainly involved wrapping up ornaments  and putting the last bits and bobs away. My Dad came home at midday and gave me a hand, and it took me the whole day to get everything done. In the evening, my parents dropped me off at the station and I took the train to Stratford where Mat met me. I arrived at my new flat and had a nice first evening in.

Saturday 6th: Today my parents came up to see the new flat and bring the rest of my things up! It was a really nice day, though I was a bit emotional! We also went out to a nearby tesco to grab some bits for the flat. We watched TV during the day and then Mat and I watched 'Hook' in the evening, a film I haven't watched for quite a while!

Sunday 7th: Today was a pretty nice day, We woke up earlyish to wait for Tash, choosing to walk up to Mat's potential new job at a nearby Tesco with him. Tash actually didn't arrive till early afternoon and we helped her unpack a little before heading up to Westfield Shopping Centre to get some new work shoes and uniform. In the evening, we went to Chipotle for dinner before heading home and watching Game Of Thrones late into the evening.

Last Week's Shenanigans: Making the most of Netflix and a broken boiler!

So this week has been pretty uneventful I suppose! I spent a lot of it watching TV and Films, but I'm really glad I did! They were well worth the watch. Bev got a Netflix account after the 30 Day Trial finished, so we've been really getting into some of the things on there!

Monday 28th - So this was actually a day off for me, from work. I had a bit of a lay-in (I was super tired) then when I woke, I spent the morning doing some blog bits and bobs, and reading some more of 'Poison Study'. In the afternoon, Bev and I decided to watch some things on TV, starting with 'The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas', a film we bought a while back and never watched. It was extremely heart-breaking and sad, and we loved it! Bev's 30 Day Trial was ending too, so we began watching 'American Horror Story' and 'Doctor Who' with Christopher Eccleston on Netflix, as she wasn't sure whether to start paying for an account. Unfortunately, the Boiler broke too so we were without hot water for part of the day.

Tuesday 29th - Most of Tuesday was made up of work or travelling too and from Canterbury. It was pretty busy and there was a lot to do, but it wasn't really an eventful shift as such. I took the opportunity to get a load of reading done on the train however meaning that by the time Tuesday was over, I was almost done! After work I did my Top Ten Tuesday post also, which was a lot of fun this week!

Wednesday 30th - Once again I had work, but first Bev and I had to stay in for the Engineer to come and fix the boiler. She invited her friend Caz round and together we watched an episode of 'American Horror Story' which is a bit weird but I am starting to really get into it! Work was once again a little boring but it broke up my day and I completely finished 'Poison Study'.

Thursday 31st - Thursday marked another day off with Bev (if you haven't guessed by now, she's out of school term time). And we watched some more 'Doctor Who' and 'American Horror Story', as well as a wonderful film called 'Driving Lessons'. We had Stir Fry for lunch which was delicious, but we didn't do an awful lot else.

Friday 1st - Mat had been away to Dymchurch with a friend of his for a few days, but he came back on Friday and came round late morning. As I hadn't seen him for quite a chunk of the week, it was nice to spend some time with him again. We spent the afternoon helping Dad with some chores, attempting to watch 'Game Of Thrones' and failing because my HDMI Cable was broken, and relaxing. Then in the evening he took me out for Fajitas at Chiquitos and to go and see 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' at the Cinema, which was an amazing film! I've never laughed so hard at a Marvel film (Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon is hilarious) and I thought it tied into the bigger picture pretty well. It does mean I have to wait a long time for the next installment though!

Saturday 2nd - Mum and Dad went away to Nottingham for the weekend to attend a party, meaning my Sister and I were alone. Bev went to see her friend Caz again, and I had work in the afternoon. When I came home, I watched some 'Misfits' with Caz and Bev (Netflix again) and we waited for Mat to come round, though he didn't finish work until 8. As soon as he arrived, we ordered pizza (yes I know I don't really like it but it was a treat because Bev managed to get £10 off of the order as last time she ordered from them, they were apparently late. We played Cards Against Humanity, which is a great game though you need to have a pretty dark sense of humour. Both Caz and Mat stayed over, even though Bev started to feel unwell towards the end of the evening.

Sunday 3rd - After Mat slept over, we decided to go to his house because he had the day off from work. For the most part, we watched 'Game Of Thrones'. Season 3 so far is awesome, though I have a real feeling of impending doom. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, 'Game Of Thrones' is pretty ruthless. Generally it was a bit of a lazy day, but a nice one nonetheless. Bev still wasn't very well, both before I left and after, so I was glad that Mum and Dad came home to entertain us with their Hotel stories!

Daily Shenanigans, 15/07/2014: Secret Unlimited Screening!

I've had quite a day today, starting off with a lovely lay-in because I was absolutely shattered after yesterday! When I finally got up about mid-morning, I got straight on with writing my Top Ten Tuesday post and browsing the others on my Bloglovin' feed. I feel like I've been neglecting commenting on other people's blogs recently, so have tried to do a bit of catching up. I've also been pretty busy job hunting, sorting out the consoles that Mat and I are going to sell tomorrow, and doing a bit of reading. I really need to get back into that, especially as I now don't have a work shift for a good week and a half!

The main highlight of the day however came when Mat and I went to the Unlimited Screening. We didn't know, until tonight, what the film would actually be. A few clues had been let slip on Twitter, but nothing definitive. When I found out it was 'Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes' I had a pretty mixed reaction. First there was the fact that I hadn't seen it's predecessor, so I was a little annoyed that they had decided to show a sequel for that reason. Secondly, the website advertised the secret screening as being shown 'well ahead of it's release date'. Is two days before it's released 'well ahead'? I think not.

Nevertheless, despite feeling a bit negative to begin with, the film itself was phenomenal! I didn't need to have seen 'Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes' to understand it (though there were references) and I thought the animation was just fantastic. I really got into it a lot and regretted my initial annoyance, though I do still feel a little cheated. Anyone who was wondering whether it would be worth a watch, it is. For the CGI alone! The expressions on the apes were beautifully rendered, managing to look both human and convey emotion, while most definitely ape-like. I really bought into the story and the acting, and I loved the soundtrack.

Tomorrow I have to run a couple of errands and I'm seeing Mat for most of the day. I should get some reading done though and I really hope to finish 'The Silent History' and get onto 'Dragon's Curse'.

Weekly Wishlist #19

1) 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' DVD. Okay so I'm missing Marvel. I'm getting serious withdrawal symptoms. 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' is coming out in August here in the UK and I'm excited for it. Not only that, but 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' also comes out on DVD in August! Hooray! I can't stop listening to the Soundtrack, so it is clear to me that I need to have this film. I loved it so much when I watched it in the cinema all those months ago, it is definitely one of the top Marvel films for me! The more I think about it, the more I reckon it has overtaken Iron Man 3 and made it to the top three...

2) 'The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nighttime'; Mark Haddon. I heard about this book quite a while back though never actually read it. A friend of mine went on about it for days! I didn't really know what it was about until I got to go and watch the show in the Apollo Theatre in London. I fell in love with it and have had a real hankering to read the book ever since. I realised that it hadn't actually made one of these Wishlists yet so thought that should change! It certainly looks like a touching, fun story.

3) 'High Rise'; J.G. Ballard. I've been wanting to read more Classics as of late. I feel like I don't read them enough, despite the fact that the ones I have read I've really enjoyed. A class war in an Apartment block? This sounds like a strangely intriguing read! As well as my desire to read a classic or too, my all-time favourite actor, Tom Hiddleston, has been cast to play the lead in a film interpretation of the book and that's why of all the Classics, this one stood out as a 'must read soon'. I'd love to have read the book before I watch the film!

4) 'Sugar Hall'; Tiffany Murray. Does anyone else, other than me, get a desire to read a good Ghost story now and again? One such urge recently hit me, and I remembered reading about the synopsis for this highly reviewed book quite a while back! It certainly looks very scary, with a good plot (the most important part of a ghost story, for me) and I would be really happy if I got to read it at some point!

5) Disney 'The Legacy Collection: The Lion King' Soundtrack. Okay so this is one of those discoveries you make where you go 'Why on earth have I not heard of this before?'. Disney have released another version of the Lion King Soundtrack/Score (one of my favourites. But it gets better! It not only contains the original tracks of the soundtrack, but 30 minutes of previously unreleased score! I actually feel like I might be dreaming. This, accompanied with notes from Don Hahn (Producer) and Hans Zimmer (Composer) and some lovely artwork from Lorelay Bove, a visual development artist. And there's going to be a series! I'm definitely dreaming, right?

Daily Shenanigans, 17/06/2014: A long awaited reunion.

Well I won't make this too long! My morning was spent writing my 'Top Ten Tuesday' post. I found today's topic really hard actually, I'm looking forward to reading a lot of books this Summer! I persevered and managed it however,  then immediately got dressed and ready to see my friend Rosie. I haven't seen her for a really long time, we have both been so busy at Uni until now! It was really nice to finally find time to meet up again! We mostly played Horror games (which we both love) and watched films! In fact we just finished watching 'Mama' which has me scared witless, so I probably won't sleep tonight. Not my wisest move...

Tomorrow I'm back home and busy being productive because I really need to be.

Daily Shenanigans, 16/06/2014: 'The Fault In Our Stars' Advanced Screening.

So I've had a pretty exciting and productive day today, certainly in terms of reading! To begin with, I was staying at Mat's last night and I've spent the day at his. We mostly relaxed, playing games and watching Game Of Thrones. As well as that I managed to finish that very book! I enjoyed it so much, and the review went up today as promised. I thoroughly recommend the book, it's a brilliant start to the epic saga!

But now for the main crux of my post. This evening, Mat and I made use of our Unlimited cards and watched the advanced screening of 'The Fault In Our Stars' (it actually comes out Thursday here in Britain). I will start by saying that I majorly cried and it was not a pretty sight at all! The whole cinema was in floods of tears and anyone who has read the book will know why. It was definitely worth the sobbing though, the film was fantastic! Hazel and Augustus had a wonderful onscreen chemistry that far exceeded my expectations and I enjoyed every minute of the film. They stuck pretty closely to the book as well which I was pleased about. I really appreciated seeing some of my favourite quotes in there, but I actually found a new appreciation for some parts of the film that I didn't take much notice of in the book.

The casting was fantastic. Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort were wonderful as the two leads,  as I have said. In addition, Nat Wolff played Isaac perfectly! I had such a soft spot for Isaac in the book that it was important to me that the film got him right, which they did. I was also very impressed with Willem Dafoe as the eccentric and bitter Peter van Houten. I am so glad that I enjoyed this film,  which was very funny at times, but heart breaking and emotional throughout.

Tomorrow I'm off to stay round a friend's house who I haven't seen for a very long time! I'll also be posting my Top Ten Tuesday post!

Weekly Wishlist #17

1) 'Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea'; April Genevieve Tucholke. My goodness. Just look at that cover. I saw this book a couple of weeks ago, on a fair few lists for a 'Top Ten Tuesday' topic. Instantly intrigued, I looked into further and I have to say, I really like the sound of this book. I would love to get a chance to read it and do a review because as far as I can see, this one has received pretty mixed reviews. It looks a bit creepier than some Paranormal Romance books I've read in the past, and I like it when books have a dash of horror in them.

2) 'Assassin's Creed: Unity' Game. Okay, so who here likes games? And who watched E3? Well I actually didn't but I made sure I was keeping up with the announcements and this game really caught my attention. I haven't played an awful lot of Assassin's Creed myself, but I have watched it played and loved it to bits! I've just never had time myself! What really stood out for me with this one was the fact that it's Multi-Player! I have hoped for a decent Multi-Player game for this series for a long time and this looks great! There's no cover for the game yet and it's not due out until Christmas time but I'm still very much looking forward to it!

3) 'The Mirk & The Midnight Hour'; Jane Nickerson. So this cover and book caught my attention quite a while back, when I was going on a Fairy Tale re-telling hunt. This is unusual because it's based on a fairly unknown story, 'Tam Lin'. I am really excited by the idea of this book, it looks like a beautiful and well-penned story. I'm so intrigued to see whether it matches my expectations, which for this book, are high. Jane Nickerson has also written another fairy tale themed re-telling, 'Strands Of Bronze & Gold', which is based on the story of Bluebeard. I'd love to give that one a try too!

4) 'The Shadow Of The Window'; Carlos Ruiz Zafón. When I first joined Goodreads and started blogging, I read 'The Tale Of Raw Hide & Bloody Bones' by Jack Wolf. At the time, I really wanted to see if there was a similar book because I enjoyed it so much, and this is one of the recommendations I was given! I stumbled upon it again recently and found that I still really want to give this one a try. It has an intriguing synopsis and has received good reviews.

5) 'Porco Rosso' DVD. It's no great secret that I'm a bit of a fan of animated films. One such set of films that I love are made by Studio Ghibli, a Japanese Animation studio. If you've never watched any films of theirs, I thoroughly recommend it. I'm trying to get hold of all of their films, and one that has escaped my grasp so far is 'Porco Rosso'. The story-line looks great, and to be honest, I've never been disappointed by a film produced by Studio Ghibli.

Daily Shenanigans, 01/06/2014: 'Maleficent'.

So today was a lovely day off, but I did get a surprising amount done. Actually I was pretty productive! I've made a start on 'The Luminaries' and it's pretty enjoyable so far. I'm intrigued to see where this one will lead. In fact I spent a good bit of the day reading, doing blog stuff and generally relaxing. I posted two other posts today, my 'Planned Reads For June' and my 'Weekly Wishlist' which I really enjoyed writing! I did also create a review archive page, which I plan to show on my blog ASAP. It was satisfying to put all of my reviews in one place, and I can't wait to add to it! This evening, I went to pick Mat up from work and then we headed to his and watched another episode of 'Game Of Thrones'. Well, most of it anyway. We had to stop ten minutes before the end to go to the cinema.

It was worth the interruption though because this evening I watched 'Maleficent'. I think it's going to be pretty hard to put into words how excited I was for this film. It looked like it was going to take Sleeping Beauty's story down a similar path that 'Wicked' did with 'The Wizard Of Oz'. I worried that I would be disappointed, but now I realise I had nothing to worry about at all. It was a stunning film. They made a few changes to the story but that was really to be expected. The visuals, first off, were stunning. Particularly some of the scenes set in the land of the Fairies. These were among my favourite, the huge amount of imagination that went into this film was something to behold. I actually really did like the story itself too.

Angelina Jolie did a wonderful job as the titular character. I'm not an overly big fan of hers and I worried that I wouldn't enjoy her performance, but she was perfect for the role! Cold-hearted and cruel, but with hidden depths that were a joy to discover. I also really loved Imelda Staunton as Knotgrass and Elle Fanning played Aurora wonderfully. Again, I worried that I might find her annoying, but I found instead the complete opposite! Sharlto Copley was great as the mad King Stefan but for me the star performance came from Sam Riley as Diaval the Raven. I found him to be so funny and they really made his character a memorable one.

All in all, a fantastic film with great costumes and a beautiful soundtrack to boot! Tomorrow I'm working again but I plan to squeeze in a lot of reading around my shift. I have to get the train tomorrow, so I will certainly be able to use that time to my advantage.

Daily Shenanigans, 27/05/2014: 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past'.

Well today felt like the first actual day off where I've been able to work on blogging and reading without worrying about anything else in ages! I spent the morning working on my Top Ten Tuesday post which as always, I really enjoyed writing. Particularly as this week's topic was a freebie so I could devise whatever list I wanted! I think I chose a topic I've been wanting to get off my chest for a while, page-to-screen adaptions hold a very special place in my heart. Straight after finishing that, I wrote my review of 'The Three' by Sarah Lotz. The book itself I had mixed thoughts on, but I did enjoy the unique style that it was told in. Having finished that, I felt it was important to catch up on all the blog posts I've been missing while I've been busy at Uni because I think it's important that as a community we all take the time to read each other's posts as well as write our own. I did also get a chance to read a little of my next read, Nicola Mar's 'A Red Tale' which I'm enjoying so far.

This evening, Mat came round to drop the car off and we decided on the spur of the moment to go to the cinema and watch a film that we have both been extremely excited about! Since attending the premiere, I have been beside myself waiting to watch the latest X-Men film! The trailers gave very little away but it was really fantastic. I felt that Jennifer Lawrence really excelled herself in this one, Mystique seemed to have a whole lot more depth than I've seen previously in the series. Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen were just wonderful to watch, I hadn't realised how much I'd missed those characters. I also really enjoyed Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy,  they were just great. Someone that really shone (that I wasn't expecting) was Evan Peters as Quicksilver! One word: hilarious. I really hope to see more of him in the future and I'm a little intrigued to see what Marvel's interpretation in Avengers: Age of Ultron will be! As well as the all important acting and the pretty decent storyline,  I did really enjoy the effects,  and I thought the soundtrack was awesome! Well worth a watch!

Tomorrow I'm reading and packing in the morning as I have work in the afternoon, then straight to Mat's house to stay over.

Daily Shenanigans, 21/05/2014: A few steps closer!

I'm extremely pleased with the progress I made today! Basically all of the programming is done and I've even sorted out most of the sound for my performance on Friday! I am starting to get a bit nervous now, there are still things to do and I have this unshakable anxiety that something might go wrong (I've been assured it won't). My morning mainly consisted of sorting out sound files, while the afternoon was entirely made up of doing things in Uni with my friend who kindly agreed to help me out! I've had a pretty decent day, though I've had an absolutely awful headache that only went away a few hours ago. On the plus side, I did get to watch 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I' so that improved the evening immensely!

Tomorrow I plan to get a bit arty! I need to make some props for my show and go to town to pay in a cheque. On a blog note, I also need to post my 'Life Of A Blogger' post. As you can see, I will not get a review up today for 'The Three'. I just need to be focusing on my Uni work right now, but I am making progress with it!

Daily Shenanigans, 15/05/2014: 'Godzilla'.

I've had quite a busy day today but I'll try to keep this fairly brief as I'm knackered! I started off the day writing my 'Life Of A Blogger' post and drafting the answers to my 'Book Blogger Test' questions (I had to wait to get the picture, which is why the post ended up going up so late). Imogen, the friend that was coming over today, arrived not long after and I spent a lovely few hours with her talking about my Multimedia Project as well as catching up and playing games. It was a lot of fun and really good to see her again after such a long time! After Imogen had gone, Mat came over with the car and we made our way to the cinema to watch 'Godzilla' this evening!

I'll write a little something about the film. I wasn't expecting it to be all that good, but as far as remakes go, I was pretty taken aback by how much I actually enjoyed it. They made Godzilla look pretty cool, the use of Modern CGI effects for this one were well placed and I really like his new look. I also really liked the story-line as well. I watched the original film a very long time ago and don't remember much about it but I would be interested to see how the two compared. This felt very modern and pretty realistic, though I wasn't totally blown away and something about the end reaction felt a little off to me. I did enjoy the focus on other things, namely family, in this one. It turned the film into something more than just a disaster film. Also, Alexandre Desplat's score was gorgeous. Some really nice moments in there!

All in all, I've had a nice, relaxing day! Tomorrow I'm back to Uni to work on my Project a bit more (it's my final Uni assignment) and I'll get some more reading done. Whew!

Daily Shenanigans, 13/05/2014: My 21st Birthday!

Well this post is coming a little late, but that's because I've been quite busy today! It's my birthday! I'm home now and have had a lovely day with Mat and my family, and I'm blown away by some of the gifts I've received! I'll do a quick haul because some of you might be interested and there are a few books scattered in there which I'm desperate to fan-girl about! I must apologise for very poor picture quality!

These are the presents I received from Mat and I'm so taken aback! I'll mention these first because I have already spoken about most of them but I was so happy with them! I mentioned that he got me a cute Eevee toy and Totoro toy yesterday while shopping. I probably also mentioned the Chocolate egg which I got yesterday as an early present! Well the one I received today was so unexpected and I still can't believe he got me one but it's a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3! I knew he was planning something bigger for my 21st, but this? I did not see it coming! I'm so grateful for everything he got me, as well as the lovely four days in London he treated me to. I've been spoilt rotten!

Next up are some of the presents I received from extended family. My Nan and Grandad bought me a gorgeous necklace which I adore. they let me look at it when I visited them a couple of weeks ago to make sure I liked it, which of course I did! It's beautiful! They also got me one of the two big keys, all wrapped up in pink as a bit of a joke. The second key is personalised and from one of my Aunts! speaking of Aunts, I have two more. One of them bought be a lovely bracelet and key-ring, while I received lip make-up from the other. I loved all of these presents!

This is actually a really terrible photo but pictured are the lovely and exciting presents that my Mum and Dad got me! A book on the Stage Show 'Les Misérables' (which I watched and adored). The 'Sherlock' series 3 DVD (which I am so happy about, it was on one of my Wish Lists). Tickets to see 'Let The Right One In' in the West End which I knew I was getting but I'm so looking forward to the show. The Swedish film is great! And last but certainly not least, the entire Harry Potter book collection! This present was entirely unexpected too and I actually almost cried! These covers are my favourite too so I was really happy!

Now for some reason this picture came out really well but there's a lot to cover here so I'll list them all anyway! These are the presents from my Sister, Bev who also has a blog at Tutus And Ballet Shoes and I love them all. She got me the 'Frozen' DVD which made me actually squeal when I saw it! She bought a couple of Owl-themed notebooks because I need some for general blog planning etc. There was also a lot of chocolate because it's probably my biggest addiction! And one of my favourite presents from her was a beautiful Snitch pocket-watch that actually opens and has pretty wings and tells the time and it's gorgeous (I love my Harry Potter themed bits and bobs). Now for the books which I'm sure you're all dying to hear about! First, 'Scarlet' by Marissa Meyer. The second in the Lunar Chronicles, I now have extra incentive to read them! The first three books of the 'Peter Grant' series, 'Rivers Of London', 'Moon Over Soho' and 'Whispers Underground'. Man I want to read these books so bad but simply thought I'd never get round to owning them! And last but not least, the entire 'Game Of Thrones' series! Wow I want to read these so badly but I must resist and get through my other reads first.

And that about sums up my collection of Birthday bits! This is probably the longest Daily Shenanigans post I have ever written but it has been quite a day. I spent the evening with Mat and my Family, watching 'Harry Potter and the Order Of The Phoenix' which happened to be on. I've really had such a nice day, though it's back to reality with work tomorrow!

Daily Shenanigans, 12/05/2014: The 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past' premiere!

It's the day before my birthday and it has been such a good one! We got up this morning and quickly got ready for the Premiere which was due to start in the evening, but we knew it would be better to get there earlier. When we arrived (about half 12ish) there were already so many people there, most of them dressed up in some rather impressive looking costumes! They were being judged for a competition and seeing as there were no barriers in place at this point, we decided to go and get something to eat, then do a spot of shopping. I had some lovely pasta and we went to a cute shop in the London Trocadero, 'TokyoToys', where Mat bought me an Eevee and a Totoro as early birthday presents! Speaking of early birthday presents, he also presented me with a Thorntons Chocolate Egg this morning which made me very happy.

One thing we didn't know about the premiere however was that in order to get a good spot, you had to be there when they were handing out wristbands at whatever time that was. Without wristbands, we were given a space where the stage and screens could be seen well, but no chance of any stars being able to come over and sign or talk. Nevertheless, we still had a lot of fun! The stars in attendance, for those interested, were Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy. It was really interesting listening to them talk to Johnathan Ross about upcoming projects and the film itself, and there was even a special appearance from Dynamo! I'm really glad I got to go and if I decide to go to another premiere in the future, I'll be sure to get a wristband next time!

I watched another couple of episodes of 'Game Of Thrones' this evening. It's getting pretty intense now and I'm just getting this awful feeling that my favourite characters will die while the ones I don't like will live on to cause more trouble. I shall have to wait and see! It's been such a good day and I look forward to seeing what my birthday has in store for me tomorrow!

Weekly Wishlist #12

Just got back from doing a spot of shopping so I thought I had better do this Wishlist before I forget!

1) Tickets to see Trafalgar Transformed's 'Richard III'. It is no great secret that I am a fan of Shakespeare and I also happen to think that Martin Freeman is an incredible actor. So when I heard the two were combining? Of course I wanted tickets! I have never seen Richard III performed live before, it should be really good!

2) 'Sisters Red'; Jackson Pearce. This looks like such a great series of books. Seriously, I am a sucker for Fairy-tale re-tellings and I really want to read these ones! 'Sisters Red' is the first in the series, followed by 'Sweetly', 'Fathomless' and 'Cold Spell'. They look like really interesting reads, and have been rated pretty highly. This one in particular is a re-telling of 'Little Red Riding Hood' which is one of my all time favourite fairy-tales. Pretty please?

3) 'A Monster Calls'; Patrick Ness. Okay before I say anything, how creepy is that cover art? I love it! I've heard a lot about Patrick Ness' books recently and I really would like to start getting into them. He gets so many high reviews and having read the synopsis for this one it sounds like my kind of book! I'm also intrigued by the fact that the idea was originally Siobhan Dowd (who wrote the beautiful 'A Swift, Pure Cry'). It certainly looks worth a read!

4) 'Ultraviolence', Lana Del Rey. On my 'Life Of A Blogger' post a couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I was a bit of a fan of Lana Del Rey. I think her voice is just gorgeous and I like to listen to her songs no matter what mood I'm in! I'm so excited that she has another album coming out! It won't be released until June, and the sooner that date comes, the better! The songs on this particular album are apparently a little darker than some of her previous work so I'm certainly intrigued!

5) 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' DVD. I was completely blown away by this movie when I saw it in the cinema! 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' is such a hilarious film, the acting was superb and the concept very original. I really liked it a lot and it seems that it will be released on DVD very soon. I would really love to get my hands on a copy to watch the film again, I enjoyed it so much!

This week's Wishlist is complete! My birthday is very, very soon now. I can't wait to see if I can cross a few things off of some of these lists I've been making!

Daily Shenanigans, 21/04/2014: A new Blog look!

You may well have noticed but I've changed the design of my blog! Hooray! It was something I've wanted to do for a while but I've put off for a long time because for one, I was terrified that it would take me a long time, and secondly, I'm pretty rubbish at these kinds of things. As it turns out, my sister and I did it together (she's a lot better than me at things like Photoshop) and I found that actually it only took half an hour at most. Most of my day was spent doing work and catching up on things that needed doing, but it was a fun little distraction to give myself a break! I really like this new design, it's certainly a lot more along the lines of what I originally wanted this blog to look like, so we'll see how long it takes me to come up with a new idea/get bored!

While doing work today, I did also find time to watch 'Thor: The Dark World' with my family (and catch the end of 'Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban' on TV). Two very good films that helped to cheer me up a bit I suppose. They were just what the Doctor ordered when all you  have to look forward to is a day of being busy doing work. I'm off to Uni tomorrow for my first official day back after Easter, something which I have very mixed feelings about. On the one hand, I've got a lot to do and have not been able to get as much done as I'd hoped over Easter so I'm happy that I can be a bit productive. But a day sat at a Mac computer doing non-stop work does not sound ideal to me. Hopefully I won't get too bored, as I'll be there for a while.

Weekly Wishlist #9

It's Sunday, which must mean it's time for my Weekly Wishlist! I've been quite busy this week so haven't been able to write it in advance.

1) 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Soundtrack. I made no secret of liking this Soundtrack when I posted about the film a few days ago. I really thought it was one of the better ones that I've heard this year in a film, and although it hasn't been released yet, I want it very much for when it is! My favourite theme was the one used for Electro, who was an excellent villain! There seems to be plenty of Electro-related tracks on there, so even more reason to be desperate to have a listen!

2) 'Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children', Ransom Riggs. I see this book everywhere. It has appeared on my Amazon recommendations more times than I can count and Bloggers all over have raved about how good this book is and how much I should read it. I've put myself on a paperback book ban which is very aggravating but necessary for shelf space. I think I'm going to have to consider getting it on the Kindle, I really need to read it!
3) 'Shiver', 'Linger' and 'Forever', Maggie Stiefvater. I have never read a book by this very popular author and I am deeply ashamed. I actually saw the first one, 'Shiver', a long time ago, and it was recommended to me by various friends of mine, but I never got round to getting or reading it! A lot of people have highly rated it (as well as it's sequels) and I really feel like I need to give some Stiefvater a try. So yes please to this book series!

4) Chocolate! Well it's Easter Day and so of course chocolate had to go on here. It is the great love of my life, the stuff that I can't live without and I adore Easter Eggs in particular for some bizarre reason. I got a couple this year of the Lindt variety (yum!) but the more chocolate the better in my opinion so it would be greatly appreciated in my opinion!

5) To go to the 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past' Premiere. I have found out that the date has been set for the London Premiere for the 12th May, the day before my birthday! I have never attended a Premiere before, though I've always wanted to. But if there was ever a good first one to go to, it would be this one! Anyone who read Thursday's post on my favourite stars will know that the idea of potentially meeting Jennifer Lawrence or Ian McKellen (slim, but a possibility) makes me a very happy bunny!

Daily Shenanigans, 17/04/2014: 'The Amazing Spider Man 2'.

So my day was pretty average and laid back. I did a bit of Uni work, but mostly spent the day chilling with my sister, doing some blog stuff and doing chores. I wrote up and posted my 'Life Of A Blogger' post, which took me absolutely ages because I had a lot to say on the subject! I have a lot of actors and actresses that I admire and look up to, so this was always going to be a topic that I enjoyed writing about. During the afternoon, Mat came round and I'm afraid to say Phoebe has failed her MOT. It wasn't anything huge, just the emissions level was way too high. Still, annoying and it leaves me (and Mat) without our beloved Fiat until the problem is fixed!

Onto the silver lining, and the crux of this post. We still went to the Cinema and we still saw 'The Amazing Spider Man 2'. It was a fantastic film, I enjoyed it so much! Firstly I'll talk about the part that stuck out most to me (as it always does). The soundtrack. Hans Zimmer, you have done it again! It was a work of art and as soon as it is released (please soon, I don't think I can cope) I want it. I loved what they did for Electro's theme, there is some really cool stuff in there! Now: onto the film. The visuals were great, the plot-line so brilliantly orchestrated. Between this film and it's predecessor, I would say this is definitely my favourite. Some great acting came from Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone and I felt the development in their relationship a lot more this time!

Some other stand out performances of course came from the villains. Jamie Foxx as Electro. He was so great, such a sad back-story and I completely understood him as a character, which is what I like in a villain. For me, they need to be complex, which Electro was. The same can definitely be said for Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn. I have never seen his acting before but I want more! He was amazing! There is a particularly unexpected and frankly pretty heart-breaking scene between the two of them which actually revealed their vulnerable sides. That's something you don't often see when two villains interact in a film and I really liked it. Talking of heart-breaking scenes, I won't give anything away, but I was a blubbering wreck towards the end. Be warned!

Tomorrow, I'm off to Uni again to help another of my friends with their project and to hopefully get some programming of my own done! I'll be pretty busy all day, but hopefully I'll get time to finish my NetGalley bio (I made a start) and request a couple of books to try it out!

Daily Shenanigans, 06/04/2014: A day with the Sister!

Well the day did not bode well for me in the beginning. I woke up with a splitting headache and feeling a bit sick. But, after taking something for it, I soon felt better. The rest of the day involved me doing a lot of blog commenting, internet browsing, writing my 'Weekly Wishlist' and reading (I'm halfway through this amazing book and I really don't want to stop)! I have really enjoyed this lovely day off, because it felt like the first day off that I've had to myself in ages despite the fact that it's the holidays now!

I actually spent quite a bit of time with my sister today which was really nice. We played a lot of games on her iPhone (including a rather hilarious rendition of Charades), watched the end of 'Hairspray' on TV and just generally chilled together quite a lot chatting and having fun. This to me was quite important, I feel like recently we haven't spent a lot of time together because we have such different schedules now! She started and finished 'The Fault In Our Stars' today, and has told me that after my next read, I need to read it. Therefore it has gone up the list and put my neatly devised schedule out of order but my impatience to read this book and talk about it with her is just too great!

Tomorrow I'm back to Uni, and then at work so a long and slightly less relaxing day ahead for me! Still, it needs to be done, and then I'll spend the rest of the time doing some bits and bobs. No car for me, so I'll be taking the train. Extra reading time, hooray!

Weekly Wishlist #7

This week will include a couple of things that I thought about putting last week after I had done the list! Still, that's why I do one every week!

1) 'Les Misérables: From Stage To Screen'. Going to see this musical was so great and I loved it so much! It is definitely one of the best I've seen live in a long time, if not ever! I also loved the movie when I saw it and would love to own this book to read about the transition between the two! I saw it on sale in the Merchandise area when I went to the theatre, but decided against buying it when I saw the price and the bulk of the book (£30). When I got home, I looked it up and as predicted, found it for a much cheaper £19.50. It includes annotated scripts, original costume sketches, film set designs and posters. A Les Mis fan's dream!

2) Tickets to see 'Let The Right One In'. When I saw the Swedish adaption of this film a few years ago I loved it. Along with Pan's Labyrinth, it is probably my favourite film that I have watched in a Foreign language. It is a beautiful coming of age tale, with the inclusion of a very well interpreted vampire. So when I heard that it had been adapted for the Theatre and was being shown in London, I might have had a mini dance for joy. I am so desperate to see it, the set just looks amazing and it has received some really good reviews.

3) 'A Long Way Down'; Nick Hornby. Well now there is simply no excuse. After seeing the new film adaption at the cinema and adoring it, I need to read this book! I was literally a blubbering wreck while watching it and I can only imagine that the book will render me unable to leave my room for days, but I frankly can't not read it. It's a risk I'm willing to take because I really want to see how they differ, if at all!

4) 'Vain'; Fisher Amelie. I have seen this book a few times around, as well as others in the series, and was immediately struck by the clever idea of doing a modern series about the seven deadly sins. The protagonists of these books sound like really intriguing characters to read about and I would be interested to see how Fisher Amelie approaches this concept. 'Vain' is the first in the series and I really want to get into this one. It's been on the list for a little while, but I do really want to read it, and the rest in the series: 'Greed', 'Fury', 'Lust', 'Idle', 'Binge' and 'Envy'!

5) Harry Potter Wizard's Collection Blu-Ray Set. Now this came out some time ago and it is so expensive. But I love these films and this series and I am just a massive Harry Potter fan. Why do I want this particular box set? Just look at it! It opens out like a magic chest! I love the design concept! But perhaps even more impressively, the extras! This set contains 37 hours of special features (heaven!) which I would happily watch, without sleep, repeatedly! The first two films have extended cut versions too which just makes me ridiculously excited! And if that wasn't enough, a Map of Hogwarts is included, and a catalogue of props, posters and concept art prints. At this point, I could cry.

Another week bites the dust! Recently the 'what do you want for your birthday' questions have been coming in, and now I have some answers! Hooray!

Daily Shenanigans, 04/04/2014: The Postman has impressed me!

So today has been one of the nicest I've had in quite a while. That feeling of not actually having anything to do that day is a rare one that I don't encounter often! I ended up having a rather nice lay-in this morning, and spent the rest of the day relaxing a lot. I replied to some comments on my blog, read a few posts, read some more of 'The Invention Of Wings' (I adore this book so far, by the way), and generally chilled out. Mat and I played quite a lot of games, and even watched a movie on TV, 'Beautiful Creatures'. I have to say I did enjoy the film, but I would love to read the book. I think I would enjoy that a whole lot more.

I returned home pretty late this evening, and found that I had two parcels waiting for me. The first was 'Good Kings, Bad Kings', which was one of my Giveaway wins that I knew would arrive soon. The second was a bit of a shock. I hadn't expected it to arrive so quickly, seeing as I only emailed my Mailing address out yesterday. It was the book that the lovely Betsy Cook Speerg had asked me to review, 'Demolition Queen: Champagne, Murder & Chaos'. In light of the fact that someone has specifically requested me to review it, I've bumped it up the TBR list accordingly, and I shall be reading it after I've finished my current read. I can't wait to get into it! It shouldn't affect my reading schedule too much, and I want to review it ASAP.

Tomorrow is my Mum's birthday, and I'm seeing Mat in the afternoon after he finishes work. It promises to be pretty relaxing again though, there is nothing planned as far as I am aware, but we'll see! Oh, I also found out today that as well as Benedict Cumberbatch playing Hamlet next year (I heard this last week), Martin Freeman will be playing Richard III fairly soon. These are both in the West End and I am desperate to go and see them, I love these actors! So there is some more exciting news from today!
