Daily Shenanigans, 23/05/2014: Uni is over!

It's official. Today marked my last Uni assignment and now it's over, so my final year of Uni is over. What does this mean? It means I can completely focus on this blog and catch up on all the reading I really need to do! I am so excited for Summer, for the future, and for being able to relax with a good book more! The performance itself went well I think. I have been in Uni since half 9 this morning, and didn't get out till half 7ish. Man I am tired, but I'm extremely happy. I suppose I also feel a little sad that my project that I've been working on for months is done and dusted with, but it'll be nice not to feel so much stress! Now is the time to go out and do more things, enjoy my new-found freedom and be more social! Hooray! So starting tonight, I'll be finishing 'The Three' and then moving straight onto Nicola Mar's 'A Red Tale'. After that, I'll be moving straight onto completing the rest of May's challenges (so reading 'Shadow & Bone' and 'Cinder').

Time to get on with the rest of my life!

Daily Shenanigans, 10/02/2014: Multimedia Piece sneak peek!

I have had such a good day. Mere minutes after I blogged yesterday's nightly post, I got a message from my lovely friend (deviantART here) who is doing the art for my Multimedia piece. She has drawn some character concepts for it and was in the process of doing some sketches for the environments I'm after. She posted them on Facebook for me and I am going to put them here because I am just so excited about them! The piece will be based on the story of 'Little Red Riding Hood', to give you some context, and will basically be a fully immersive performance which involves a live narrator telling the story, and the audience choosing the path that this particular Red Riding Hood should take. It therefore involves a lot of research, a lot of scripting and a lot of art which as you can see I'm receiving some good help with. I had a lecture today on the topic and I am so happy about how it is progressing so that certainly started off my day well. I was completely taken aback just by how much she had understood exactly what I wanted and, despite claims that she isn't psychic, managed to draw the environment art exactly how I imagined it in my head! The character concept too was beautiful and has given me so many ideas for my Poster/Programme design that I have been planning like a trooper in my notepad all day!

Next up in my day was work. As knackering as it was, I actually had a really good shift today! It went pretty fast, despite a quiet afternoon customer wise, and that meant that this evening's activities came quickly. As it was one of my friend's birthdays, she invited me and a couple of others out for dinner. I had a lovely time! The food was delicious and it was so nice to be able to relax after a busy day and have a laugh! Three cheers for a good night out! Despite having to wait 45 whole minutes for the train afterwards in the cold (that will teach me not to check the timetable properly) I still went home in good spirits, as a 15 minute train journey means? Yes! You guessed it! Time to read some more of my book in an effort not to fall asleep and end up goodness knows where! I'm about a sixth of the way through Andrew Miller's 'Pure' and I am pretty intrigued to see where everything that has happened so far is leading up to.

Time now for bed, I have another day off tomorrow though a lot to do in terms of work and going out (so not really a day off then).

Daily Shenanigans, 09/02/2014: Patriotic and proud!

Well considering it has been my day off, and Sunday is normally 'laze around and get nothing done' day, I have been ridiculously productive. And a fair bit has happened. So, first off, I posted earlier about all the challenges I am going to be taking part in over the course of this year (so far, obviously I may add to this) and you can read about that there, so I won't ramble too much now. All I can say is that I am very excited about every single one. I feel like setting myself these will not only give me more focus and direction with this blog, but will help me to integrate myself into the blogging universe a bit more and meet like-minded people! What could be better? I feel a little more like my life is coming together the way I want it to and that makes me happy. My boyfriend read my blog for the first time last night and I could honestly cry because he told me that he was proud of me, and that was so nice to hear. This might sound a bit cheesy, but more than anything, it is wonderful to know that someone is so supportive of my decision to give up time to really focus on doing this in order to better pursue my rapidly changing life goals.

As well as this, you remember that end of year project for Uni I talked about? My multimedia final piece? Well as I type, my arty friend has just messaged me and told me she's doing the first couple of sketches right now. They're only pencil drafts at the moment but it has just filled me with fresh excitement about this whole thing! I cannot wait to have this show, my show, up and running and ready to perform to all of my friends and family. Who knows what could arise from it? Sometimes I worry about not being able to see what the future holds, and how scary it looks to not have anything to hide behind anymore. But at times like this, I feel like the world is literally at my fingertips and actually, my future will be what I make it. So I'd better get cracking!

As for the rest of my day, I have been mostly working on my blog and Goodreads. I did watch Top Gear (I love this show) and I won't say much but I have to say how happy I was that Tom Hiddleston was driving the Reasonably Priced Car! Most of my TV watching today however was taken up by the current Winter Olympics. As a British Citizen I am proud to announce that Jenny Jones, Snowboarder won Britain it's very first ever Winter Olympic medal on snow! How cool is that? A remnant of London 2012 Olympic spirit perhaps? A sporty person I really am not. But I am rather patriotic so I had a bit of an excited dance over that news. Well done Jenny Jones! Really I should be off to bed now because I have to get up early tomorrow (6:15am, why?!) and I've got a very busy day. Just one more note, before I end this post: I am wearing socks with foxes on them. I don't think I can begin to describe how happy this makes me.

A motivational speech to myself.

Well Readers, the time has come to make a change to my life.

After far too much procrastination, forgetting about and downright laziness I have decided to make a decision about this blog. Either get rid of it or commit. And I mean commit. After much thought, I have realised that the problem lies with my inability to find a reason to write this blog, and bad time management. I am quite busy with my Final Year at University, and when I'm not, I never feel that I have anything truly worth saying. The lack of definite purpose makes it very difficult for me to dedicate time to it.

This decision making process has come at a very important time on my life. After three years studying Performing Arts, I have realised now that what I enjoy most in life is writing, in particular plays and fiction. This is what I have decided to do with my life and in order for it to work, I need to once again show commitment. Sorting through my room recently, I have rediscovered piles upon piles of dusty, unfinished books that I started and never completed (a theme that seems quite prevalent within this post) and, after much persuasion from my sister (who is far more organised than I, her blog can be found here: http://tutusandballetshoes.blogspot.co.uk/ , I would recommend a read! She actually regularly updates!) I am attempting to sort my life out and read through them all.

Reading and writing have always been a passion of mine, and something that I would like to consider myself fairly good at. I have spent too long worrying about being good at things I no longer truly enjoy, and not long enough engaging in and practicing the things that I do. On a recent shopping trip with my previously mentioned sister, we visited several Charity Shops and ended up coming away with a good six or seven books each that were real finds. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed doing that. Perusing the titles, examining their front covers, reading those first few lines and finally deciding that this book intrigues me enough to hand over the cash and take it home. I want, one day, to have written one of those books that someone finds accidentally on the shelf while searching for something else. Wouldn't it be lovely to be able to give someone else that feeling? To have someone want to read the words that I have painstakingly written?

Perhaps this is more a motivational speech to myself than a blog post as such. The point is, for my Final Year I am preparing a final piece that I must research and script for, tasks which I have thoroughly enjoyed and dedicated much time to. If I can put so much work into that, then I should be able to do the same with this blog by using it to review and comment on my favourite books or latest reads, as well as give updates on my own life and progress on my career dream to have my own book published.

That is my plan. And I will stick to it.
